AKC Trick Dog
Credential & Advancement Benchmarks
AKC Trick Dog titles are earned through clearly defined skill benchmarks at each level. Each credential represents demonstrated proficiency—not participation. As teams progress from Novice through advanced levels, expectations increase in precision, polish, and consistency.
At Wasatch, we evaluate progression based on fluency and reliability rather than timelines. Titles are pursued when the team is prepared, ensuring that each advancement reflects genuine communication and stable performance—not rushed achievement.
Skills must be performed with clarity and control
Criteria must meet official AKC standards
Advancement reflects readiness, not speed
Program Structure
Our AKC Trick Dog program follows a structured progression designed to build skill without overwhelming the dog or handler. Each level is approached methodically, with clear expectations and steady advancement. The focus is not simply completing a checklist, but developing reliable behaviors that hold up beyond the evaluation environment.
Clear starting-point assessment to determine appropriate title level
Sequential skill development with defined performance criteria
Controlled proofing to build consistency and confidence
Evaluation preparation when benchmarks are consistently met
Program Availability
AKC Trick Dog training is offered in both a structured five-week class and a drop-in format for teams who prefer added flexibility. The five-week course provides sequential progression, while drop-in sessions allow focused work on specific skills or title requirements. Placement is determined by your dog’s current foundation and training consistency.
Five-week structured class with progressive skill development
Drop-in sessions for targeted skill refinement and practice
Evaluation support provided when benchmarks are met
Within the Wasatch System
AKC Trick Dog is integrated within the broader Wasatch training system rather than positioned as a separate track. The skills developed in this program reinforce engagement, communication, and impulse control that support everyday reliability and long-term performance. Title work is used as a structured development tool—building clarity, confidence, and precision in a way that strengthens the entire training foundation.
Begin Your Ascent
Every program at Wasatch is built on the same foundation: clarity, structure, and intentional progression. The intake process ensures training begins at the correct starting point for each dog and team.
This allows training to remain stable, effective, and aligned with the standards that support long-term development across all disciplines.
